After the 1973 coup d’état, several
Chileans were exiled for political reasons. Some looked for shelter, settled
down and formed their families in Rome, where his children grew as Italians. In
1989, as democracy returned, many families decided to return bringing their
children with them. They had never been in Chile, had seen it only in pictures
and knew about it through stories. In a blurring line between documentary and
fiction film, The Echo of the Songs explores into the dreams and memories of
those young people, into the exile and the return, the wandering in their lives
and their visions of the current Chile.
